Valentine’s Day–PishPosh!

by Lorraine on February 1, 2010

Big Stinkin’ Deal~~~Yeah, that’s what I said. It’s nearly that time.  *Valentine’s Day*   And it makes me mad. I mean, what about the gazillion people who don’t have a living, breathing person who thinks YOU are the cat’s meow? — does that mean they aren’t good enough to get a really decadent box of chocolates (it doesn’t *have* to be Godiva’s, ya know.)   on this concocted-to-sell-flowers-and-candy day? What are we?—chopped liver?   Gimme a break.  Just sign this silly celebration:    Sourpuss Day..

This made me think of “political correctness”. Why? Who knows. PC seemed like a good idea……at first. Then it flew totally out of control. It started, innocently enough, when women over the age of 18 decided they didn’t like being called “girls”, and especially so by “men”. I terrorized the entire male staff at my workplace if any of them made the fatal error of referrring to an adult female as a girl. Poor sad easily-manipulated guys. Sheepish tittering, hehe — “Is it OK to tell you you look good in that dress today?” Like a princess bestowing a crumb, I deigned to tell them, “Well of course that’s OK, you know I love all you sweet boys.”

Don’t call anyone “old”, they are chronologically gifted. No-one is “ugly” anymore, they are cosmetically different. And if you are “fat”, you are horizontally challenged or differently sized. Do you know someone who is “boring”?—well, they are charm free.

And of course, no-one nowadays is “stupid”. They are cerebrally challenged. Best of all, if someone you know passes on, he’s not “dead”, he’s just metabolically different. These are just a few, a very few, explanations of newspeak from a little book I have called “The Official Politically Correct Dictionary & Handbook”. The one I have was published in 1992, just when the fever broke out not to offend anyone in any derogatory way.   No way, No how.    Well, we know  how THAT worked out, eh?

The most baffling and still a mystery, is the change in the title from “Personnel” (People?) to “Human Resources”  — How goofy is that?

What a world.
