Hello.   This is the “Me” part of meandthecat.   I haven’t produced a stunningly wonderful, peachy-keen blog for a while.   *sigh*   I’m pretty sure nobody noticed my absence, but what the heck, I thought I might as well announce I haven’t blogged for a little while because……………..Are you ready for this momentuous news?

I ben sik.  —I mean,  I have been ill.   I really, really hate when that happens,  it is such a total waste of time to feel like a big squishy blob of  “yes I know I haven’t taken a shower for two weeks,  just stand upwind of me then.  sheesh”     My bionic knee was (still is) giving me much pain, which is very annoying.   The Big Important Orthopod Bonecutter took X-rays  (well, HE didn’t take them, of course)  filled a vial of some icky looking fluid from my knee and after one of the “techs” tested it,  he said there’s no infection, everything is fine.    (And to make a follow-up appointment in two weeks)

HEY!  Hello?   What about the pain?   Alas it was too late, he had already left the exam room.   I decided I do not like Big Important Orthopaedic Surgeons, but when I just casually happened to mention to his nurse as she was helping me slide off the cold metal table,  “my-my, he certainly is full of himself, isn’t he?”    She said, Oh most surgeons are that way, they can’t help it.

Thank goodness for Internists.   Went whining to my primary care doc the other day, she fixed me up with a ‘script that solved [immediately] some discomfort so at least I accomplished something.     I had suggested to the Orthopod that perhaps I needed Physical Therapy???  He grunted, I think it meant “Sure, good idea”.   Why didn’t HE think of that?

So now I have something else to worry about when I start getting pummelled by therapists next Tuesday on my first appointment to their house of horror.  I have no idea what to wear!   Honestly, it’s always something.

You know how it is when you think you can just pull off that annoying little microscopic speck of skin hanging from your fingernail? We call it a “hangnail” It does no harm but we humans…..in our infinite wisdom…….decide we *must* remove that teeny sliver of skin. So we pull on it and the ensuing shock of pain sends us careening upward and smashing into the ceiling.

Why don’t we simply go and look for the “nail-clipper” — snip that silly sliver of skin from its anchor in the fingernail bed and have done with it. Why? Because we are idiots.

You have my full sympathy re: joint replacements.

I’m trying to decide whether to have a second (on the samme hip) hip surgery. The original surgery came after I broke it in Kenya after Katrina. I’d had a total replacement on the other one, so I wasn’t too concerned.

I think I may spend the money on a consult from the guy who did hip #1. Circumstances were different, but I like him and talks to me like I have a brain. So does the other one, but who knows about strangers and therir reaction to “little old ladies” (73).

Anyway, you have my heartfelt sympathy.

Sorry to hear you have been under the weather. My friend Joan has had the same problem. Ever since she had her bionic hip and femur fitted two years ago she has been in pain. The doctors have examined her, took fluid samples, x-rays, etc., and said they can’t find anything wrong. They just keep giving her painkillers, but wont open her up to correct their mistakes!

Let’s face it, in Britanistan now when you are over 70 you are just a “spent resource” and “not wanted on lifes voyage” anymore.

Well thank you both, that was nice of you to drop by! The page resolution is off kilter here, and even my amazingly smart kidlet doesn’t know why it has squished together a tad like it has.

Know what? I don’t even care anymore. hahaha

Lorraine I certainly have noticed your absence!! I wondered if you had been ill. Sounds like your orthopod and my GI doc went to the same medical school… Hope you are up and about soon.
