Blah…..URP! Gag … Retch

 I found this cutey’s photo in an interesting slideshow of big cats…….the organization is called “Big Cat Rescue”, and the site is very nice. Lots of videos — complete with cat sounds and other interesting stuff.   The sanctuary is located in Florida, and just like our little bitsy dogs and cats and such,  these people save abused, neglected, big cats and provide a good home for them.  Maybe I should pop out a blog about the horrendous lives too many of these wonderful creatures are forced to live in the U.S. — The big cats are exploited in terrible ways……… 

 Anyway, I really like that pretty American Bobcat’s expression and just wanted to have it around.  I donated a few dollars to BCR  for the right to download this particular image, so I guess I own it now. Yup. 

Furry Heroes

Sunday mornings are pretty much the same every week.   Except this Sunday.  By this time in late morning, I am usually finished with the newspaper, coffee, and whatever edibles I find lying about the kitchen for my breakfast.   This morning was way different.   I got as far as Page 8 of the “front pages” section of the paper when I read the article about the plans for a  [drumroll please]   National Monument for War Dogs.

   I was aware, of course, about the part our faithful companions played in helping to save American lives during the dark days of  *war*.    Starting with WW-I,   these wonderful creatures have faithfully and uncomplainingly worked alongside their trainer and “buddy”  and stories abound about their courage and efforts…………

I have, as you may have noticed,  plonked a link to the website —-  it’s pretty bright,  big and splashy,  but totally wonderful.   If I had any complaints about it at all, it would be the kind of excessive use of flashing bright red stars and an assortment of other small images that sort of made my eyes blink as I scrolled on down past the bright lights……Hah.    Took care of that situation,  just hit the “Stop” button at the top of the address bar.    Others might like the bright lights,  and that’s OK too.

Didn’t know about this national monument project, though.   And of course it should come to fruition.   Soon.   German Shepherds,  Belgian Malinois,  Labrador Retrievers,   those appear to be the top canine warriors.   Not difficult to see why these breeds were chosen.   The Shepherd and Malinois (look-a-likes),  it goes without saying,  are the tough top Sergeants on patrol — the Labs,  well,  since they wouldn’t hurt a fly and are just about the sweetest, gentlest breed I know (other than Golden Retrievers), must be assigned to find wounded soldiers, or land mines perhaps?  then *tell* their trainers  what’s going on.  That’s what dogs did in that nightmare of death and destruction on 9/11.  (find the dead)
